I’m a mother of 2 who works from home. I have a web-design business but previously worked for the State of California. After my son’s ASD diagnosis, my life turned upside-down and I had to quit. Being pregnant with #2 and giving birth right before we embarked on a 35 hour a week therapy schedule was grueling to say the least. I felt like my home turned into a train station with very little privacy. Although I was thankful for the specialized care my son desperately needed, I craved a meaningful escape.

I know how cliche’ it might sound, but Stephanie Meyers’ biography inspired me to write. She too was a SAHM and wrote because of a peculiar dream she had one night. I’ve always had an affinity for vampires. Staring at Brad Pitt on the silver screen as Louis in Interview with a Vampire captured my attention for the anguishing, ever-beautiful vampire. And I became totally hooked on Buffy the vampire slayer (let’s not even begin to talk about Angel). So I tried writing my own story. It was more difficult that I imagined and my respect for authors everywhere astounded.

The Emerald Talisman was born in the wee hours of the morning while I fed a little baby. All new moms know there’s A LOT of idle thinking time during those precious first months. And my little Aaron required more attention than his older brother. My characters sprang to life and I played it all out in my mind like a movie until I could write it down.

I’ve really never written anything before and I found I had a ton to learn, but I love to design and create things I see in my minds eye. Putting together a story with my love for romance, danger and super powers was something that got me up in the morning and excited to get more down on paper. It saved me.

So, I really hope you enjoy my wild roller-coaster tale as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Hugs, Brenda
